Reconstructions

The samples represent reconstructions of known historic buildings or sites. They are based on careful briefing, advice from relevant experts and personal research. The illustrations are designed to make a pictorial contribution to interpretations in both publications and displays.

Throughout the 14C. and 15C, 'ales' were a feature of the communal life of many villages in England. This scene is an impression of one such event held outdoors during the warmer part of the year.

This reconstruction shows the basement of a country house being used, as originally intended, for cleaning game and as a 'gun-room'. The house is Castle Drogo in Devon.

A reconstruction of Newark Castle built by the Normans as an episcopal (bishop's) palace. The view (circa:14C.) is from the North-West shows the possible courtyard, or inner ward plan with towers at each of the four corners.
